230103 "Manly Men Doing Manly Things Manfully" - Gendered Identities in Sports Narratives (S) (WiSe 2015/2016)

Contents, comment

In this course we are going to explore the different concepts of manhood in sports narratives (i.e. cricket, rugby, football, etc.): published in autobiographies, revealed in documentaries or mediated via interviews and articles, discourses of class, gender and politics of the body, violence or racism in sports are established, perpetuated, but also deconstructed. These discourses shape the image of particular sports, athletes, fans and fan cultures.
