How do emotions shape our lives, and what happens when we can’t regulate them? This seminar invites students to explore the science of emotions, from early development to their role in mental health and everyday well-being.
The course is structured into three interconnected sections:
1. Foundations of Emotion and Regulation
Students will explore key theories of emotion and trace their development from early childhood through adulthood. The section also examines emotion regulation strategies, highlighting their influence on well-being, interpersonal relationships, and performance.
2. Research on Emotion Regulation
This section provides an overview of research methods used to study emotion regulation, addressing common challenges and highlighting current directions in the field, including the transdiagnostic perspective.
3. Emotion Regulation and Psychopathology
In the final section, students will work in groups to present on the role of emotion regulation in mental health. Topics include disorder-specific patterns, treatment approaches, interventions, and prevention strategies.
