In this seminar, we will explore statistical methods by going beyond the surface of numbers reported in research papers. We begin with a brief historical excursion to understand how key statistical methods became established. From there, students will gain hands-on experience working with open data to replicate results from published research papers to learn how statistical results are obtained and interpreted. Finally, we will read and discuss papers about the statistical practice itself, examining how methods and recommendations are currently shaped within the research community. In the process, the students will sharpen their eye for statistics and gain skills to find the appropriate statistical methods for their research needs.
