Note: The first lecture in this course will be held on Tuesday October 14, 10:15 am in the lecture hall H11!
The topics covered are: Brief introduction to quantum mechanics (wave mechanics, angular momentum), the H atom, the photon, light matter interaction, a first introduction to quantum optics, the He atom, many electron atoms and the periodic table, simple molecules and molecular excitations, spectroscopy methods.
The lecturing and turorials will be organized as normal classroom teaching. Adminstration of the course will be organized via Moodle.
Basic knowledge from the Introductory Courses in Physics and a theory course in Quantum Mechanics are helpful but not mandatorily required.
Used literature: Bransden Joachain: Physics of Atoms and Molecules, Demtröder: Atome, Moleküle und Festkörper
