230737 Englisch: Academic Writing III: Essay Writing (S) (WiSe 2025/2026)

Unlike Academic Writing I & II (which cover research paper basics like abstracts, hedging, and conciseness for science writing), Academic Writing III concentrates on essay structure and argumentation.

Core Skills You'll Develop:
- Clear thesis statements and essay organization
- Effective topic sentences that guide readers through your arguments
- Focused paragraphs that stay on point without digressions
- Smooth transitions between ideas and sections
- English academic argumentation style (direct, evidence-based, reader-friendly)

This course is designed for you if:
- You need to write essays in English (philosophy, literature, history, cultural studies, political science, etc. Students of the hard sciences are welcome, but bear in mind that an essay is not a research paper.)
- Your written English is a B2 level or higher
- You've received feedback that your English writing is "difficult to follow" or "lacks clear structure"
- You want extensive writing practice with personalized feedback on your own academic topics

Please note: This is an online course! All meetings will take place on Zoom.
