This course is built around Sara Ahmed’s Living a Feminist Life and invites students to critically reflect on the relationship between feminism, everyday life, and theory. Drawing inspiration from the well-known feminist assertion that “the personal is political,” we will examine how everyday life is shaped by intersecting structures of power and how feminism can be lived as both a form of resistance and a means of survival. The course foregrounds an approach that does not treat feminist theory as abstract knowledge alone, but as something deeply entangled with lived experience and daily practice.
Structured thematically around the chapters of Ahmed’s book, the course includes interactive components such as a feminist manifesto workshop and other creative activities. Students are expected to actively participate in class discussions and reflect on their own experiences in relation to the readings.
Through collaborative dialogue, close reading, and creative engagement, this course aims to open up space for living, speaking, and doing feminism otherwise.
