In this course, we will explore Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) – an approach that examines how language (re)produces, normalizes, or challenges social power relations. We will engage with both the social-theoretical and methodological foundations of CDA, as well as with practical tools for conducting discourse analysis. At the heart of the course lies the question of how linguistic structures shape social reality. Students will work in groups to carry out their own small-scale discourse analyses, which we will discuss collectively in class. The aim is to develop a critical perspective on language as a social instrument of power – and to learn how to analyze it systematically.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
