The seminar aims at highlighting the various processes and procedures involved in seeking asylum in Germany. Its objective is for participants to gain reflective skills in dealing with issues arising from these processes.
It seeks to broaden participants knowledge and understanding of these procedures with the practical steps involved from beginning to the end. It also discusses the different legal regimes governing the process and puts a spotlight on various institutions and agencies involved with their roles. Topics to be discussed include some basic terms and definitions in this field, the legal basis for asylum, and why people seek asylum. It also focuses on the stages from applying to obtaining the refugee status, and other statuses of protection that may be obtained at the end of the process. In addition, the seminar underscores factors that may lead to asylum applications being rejected among others. This course may be situated within Forced Migration Studies, Refugee Studies, and Migration Social Work Practice.
