300243 Theory and Research in Sociology of Education (S) (SoSe 2015)

Contents, comment

The seminar aims at understanding education and educational systems through the prism of different sociological theories and research. The emphasis will be on how these theories and research examine the ways through which education serves as a mechanism for challenging or/and (re)reproducing ethnic and gender social inequalities in the wider society. The modules will include 1. (a) the sociological perspective of education; (b) classical sociological theories of education; (c) contemporary (global) sociological theories of education; 2. the German and Israeli educational system; 3.(a) education and ethnic inequality; (b) education and gender inequality; (c) justice in education; 4. conclusions and discussion.
