220058 Das römische Reich in der Spätantike (Ü) (SoSe 2015)

Die Epoche der Spätantike (284-641 n. Chr.) von der Neuordnung des römischen Reiches durch Diokletian und Konstantin bis zur arabischen Eroberung größerer Gebiete des oströmischen Reiches gilt in der gegenwärtigen Forschung als Zeitraum der Transformation of the Roman Empire. Strittig ist, ob die Verwandlung der römischen Mittelmeerwelt stärker durch das Abbrechen antiker Traditionen oder durch Kontinuitäten geprägt war. Das Seminar bietet eine Einführung in diese historische Epoche, wobei ein Überblick über die wichtigsten politischen Entwicklungen sowie die sozialen, wirtschaftlichen, religiösen und kulturellen Verhältnisse gegeben werden soll. Diese historische Orientierung wird durch das Seminar zur „Völkerwanderung“ vertieft (Die "Völkerwanderung" selbst ist nicht Thema dieser historischen Orientierung).
