220044 Die Amerikas im Zeitalter der Revolutionen (1770-1825) (S) (SoSe 2015)

Contents, comment

1962 prägte der britische Historiker Eric Hobsbawm mit dem Begriff "age of revolution" das Zeitalter von 1789 bis 1848 in Europa. Mindestens ebenso dramatisch wie in der Alten Welt, die Hobsbawm betrachtet, waren allerdings die Transformationen in der "Neuen Welt". Zwischen 1776 bis 1825 zerfallen die europäischen Kolonialreiche in der westlichen Hemisphäre nahezu komplett. Neben den politischen Transformationen, der Umwandlung von Kolonialen in Republiken, vollziehen sich soziale, ökonomische und kulturelle Wandlungsprozesse. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt des Seminars liegt deshalb auf den Veränderungen der Sklavereiregime in den Amerikas.
