Umweltmonitoring erkennt und bewertet die durch menschliche Tätigkeit in die Umwelt eingebrachten chemischen Elemente und deren Konzentrationen. Zum Thema "Umweltmonitoring" werden im Seminar theoretische Hintergründe und verschiedene Methoden vermittelt. Aktuelle Forschungsarbeiten werden mit Hilfe gezielter Beiträge aus wissenschaftlichen Zeitschriften aufgearbeite, präsentiert und diskutiert.
