Die traditionelle individualisierende Sicht von Behinderung wird für gewöhnlich mit Vorstellungen von Mangel und Defizit verknüpft. Eine Gegenposition entwickelte die inter- und transdisziplinäre Forschungsausrichtung der Disability Studies. Die Studierenden eigenen sich im Seminar ein fundiertes Wissen über die verschiedenen theoretischen Positionen, Themen und Forschungsfelder der Disability Studies an. Sie erwerben Kenntnisse um Behinderung als historisches, kulturelles, soziales, ökonomisches und politisches Phänomen kritisch zu reflektieren und zu thematisieren. Auf der Grundlage der erarbeiteten theoretischen Positionen wird deren Bedeutung für Bildung und Erziehung (Disability Studies in Education) berücksichtigt.
