Das Seminar will in die Grundlagen der Paläographie und Handschriftenkunde einführen. Behandelt werden Schrifttypen und ihre historische Einordnung, verschiedene Notationssysteme und die wichtigsten Gebiete der Kodikologie (Beschreibstoffe, Bindungen, Seitengestaltung, Schreiberzusätze, Buchschmuck, Findehilfen, Einbände und Provenienzbestimmung). Das Material (Kopien aus lateinischen und deutschsprachigen Handschriften des Mittelalters) wird bereitsgestellt.
