300066 Gender perspectives on Law, Welfare and Policy (S) (SoSe 2016)

Contents, comment

In this course we will focus on several feminist and gendered approaches to law, welfare and policy. In particular, we will read and discuss works written in the frameworks of feminist legal studies, gendered welfare regime studies, feminist new institutionalism and gender policy analysis. The aim of the course is for students to familiarize themselves with these different approaches, understand their specificities, similarities and contradictions between them; to get to know and understand main debates in each of these schools of thought. In the course we will read theoretical and empirical papers. The overall aim of the course is to discuss such concepts as gender, woman, state policy and law from different points of view in order to ‘unsettle’ them. With all that said, we will work together to make this course interesting, so I hope for your active participation.
