Im Vordergrund der Übung steht die Beschreibung und Analyse von Politik als Teilsystem der modernen, funktional differenzierten Gesellschaft. Die Veranstaltung stellt das begriffliche Instrumentarium vor, das benötigt wird, um politische Phänomene aus systemtheoretischer Perspektive analysieren zu können. Auf der Grundlage eines präzisierten Systembegriffs werden die Voraussetzungen und Konsequenzen der Ausdifferenzierung von Politik diskutiert. Die Veranstaltung soll dadurch ein Verständnis dessen vermitteln, was eine Soziologie des politischen Systems im Kontext einer komplexen Theorie der modernen Gesellschaft zu leisten vermag.
