Die neoklassische Standardtheorie, so wie sie in den wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Lehrbüchern seit Jahrzehnten gelehrt wird, gilt als gescheitert. Neue Erkenntnisse, beispielsweise der Psychologie und Neurologie, der Verhaltensforschung und nicht zuletzt der soziologischen Forschung, haben die Fundamente der neoklassischen Standardtheorie erschüttert. Kritisiert werden insbesondere die neoklassische Rationalitätsannahme sowie die Annahme vollständiger Informationen und stabiler Präferenzen. Vor dem Hintergrund der theoretisch-methodologischen Schwächen der neoklassischen Theorie einerseits und dem gesellschaftlichen Bedürfnis nach theoretischen Alternativen andererseits, wird sowohl in der Wirtschaftssoziologie, als auch in den Wirtschaftswissenschaften an neuen Ansätzen und Theorien zur Beschreibung wirtschaftlicher Strukturen, Prozesse und Dynamiken gearbeitet.
Diese Entwicklungen des akademischen Felds der Wirtschaftsforschung sowie eine Auswahl entsprechender wirtschaftswissenschaftlicher und soziologischer ökonomischer Theorien sind Gegenstand des Blockseminars. Das Ziel ist sowohl die Besonderheiten soziologischer und wirtschaftswissenschaftlicher ökonomischer Theorien herauszuarbeiten, als auch - unabhängig von disziplinären Zuordnungen - insgesamt das Potenzial jüngerer ökonomischer Theorien in Bezug auf die Bereitstellung neuer Fundamente für ökonomische Theorie(n) zu diskutieren.
