Das Seminar behandelt in historisch-soziologischer Perspektive die Genese und Entwicklung weltgesellschaftlicher Strukturen. Die Historische Soziologie ist diejenige soziologische Disziplin, die sich mit der Analyse von historischen Prozessen befasst. Es werden von daher im Seminar soziologische und geschichtswissenschaftliche Analysen miteinander verbunden und kontrastiert. Nach einer Einführung in Grundlagen der Historischen Soziologie wird ein Überblick über die in Frage stehenden historischen Prozesse gegeben. Anschließend kommen zentrale soziologische und geschichtswissenschaftliche Forschungsansätze thematisiert (Dependenz- und Weltsystemtheorie, multiple modernities, entangled history etc.).
