Die Historische Kontextualisierung diskutiert die moderne deutsche Geschichte seit dem späten 18. Jahrhundert mit einem intersektionalen Blick auf Gleichheits- und Ungleichheitsparameter wie Stand, Klasse, Geschlecht, Religion, Ethnizität sowie Rassifizierungspraktiken- und -prozesse. Zugleich können wir auf diese Weise einen Überblick über Forschungsentwicklungen erarbeiten. Auch wenn die deutsche Geschichte im Vordergrund steht, werden globale Dimensionen einbezogen, die nicht nur in der Phase des formalen deutschen Kolonialismus im Kaiserreich wichtig waren. Übergreifend geht es zum einen darum, grundlegende Paradoxien im Verständnis der 'westlichen Moderne' zu erarbeiten. Zum anderen können wir diskutieren, welche Wechselwirkungen zwischen Gleichheits- und Ungleichheitsparametern und verschiedenen politischen Systemen bestehen.
