Das Seminar bietet eine Einführung in die deutschsprachige Exilliteratur der Jahre 1933 bis 1945. Während der nationalsozialistischen Herrschaft werden jüdische und politisch unliebsame Schriftsteller:innen verfolgt und vertrieben, ihre Bücher verbrannt. Gleichzeitig entstehen literarische Texte, die die Erfahrung der Flucht literarisch darstellen.
Im Mittelpunkt des Seminars steht die Frage, wie diese literarischen Texte die Figur des „Flüchtlings“ und dessen Flucht darstellen. Wir gehen dabei von Hannah Arendts Konzept des Flüchtlings aus, nach der Flucht mit einem Verlust der Menschenrechte einhergeht. Anschließend untersuchen wir, inwiefern die literarischen Darstellungen Arendts politische Theorie spiegeln sowie erweitern und welchen Beitrag diese Analyse für das heutige politische Denken leisten kann.
