This course introduces students to migration theory from a decolonial perspective, with specific emphasis on
migration phenomena in countries in the Global South and their connection to global migration dinamics.
Its starts from the premise that South- south mobility is the norm, not the exception. We discuss historical migration dinamics
in Africa, South America and Asia, critically evaluate and discuss traditional and more contemporary theoretical approaches to
migration theory and relate these insights to specific case studies. We cover topics like internal migration and urbanisation,
migration and displacement, migration and development, regional migration systems, care work and migration,
student mobility in the Global South, transnational labour markets in Africa, Asia and South America,
belonging and identity and migration policy in the Global South.
Knowledge of Migration theory is an advantage.
