Dieses Seminar untersucht zentrale Dynamiken gesellschaftlichen Wandels im zeitgenössischen China. Im Fokus stehen Themen wie soziale Ungleichheit, Familie, Bildung, Arbeit, Migration sowie Formen staatlicher und digitaler Governance. Anhand ausgewählter empirischer Studien und theoretischer Ansätze wird analysiert, wie sich gesellschaftliche Strukturen im Kontext wirtschaftlicher Transformationen und politischer Steuerung verändern. Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Frage, inwiefern sich aktuelle Entwicklungen als Kontinuität oder Wandel verstehen lassen. Ziel ist es, grundlegende analytische Perspektiven auf soziale Transformationen in China zu erarbeiten und auf unterschiedliche Themenfelder anzuwenden.
Die Sitzungen basieren auf der gemeinsamen Diskussion wissenschaftlicher Texte und ausgewählter Fallstudien. Die Kurssprache ist Deutsch; ein Teil der Literatur wird jedoch auf Englisch gelesen.
