This course will look in detail both at the linguistic product of learners when attempting to speak and write English and also at the psycholinguistic processes which underlie learners' linguistic product. Major themes will be the analysis, diagnosis and evaluation of learner errors, variation in learner language, learning and communication strategies, lexical compensation strategies and automatisation and speech planning processes. At all times we will be considering the implications of our discussion for classroom language teaching.
Admission to this class is for students who have done the introductory class to PM 7, "Introduction to Second Language Acquisition"
