Das Seminar beabsichtigt eine detaillierte Lektüre von François Rabelais‘ Gargantua und Pantagruel. Dabei sollen grundlegende Kenntnisse zum historischen Verständnis frühneuzeitlicher Erzählliteratur erworben werden sowie unterschiedliche systematische Zugänge zu Rabelais‘ Romanzyklus erprobt werden.

Die Lektüre der beiden Romane wird zu Seminarbeginn vorausgesetzt. Als Hilfestellung wird die deutschsprachige Übersetzung von Wolf Steinsiek und Frank-Rutger Hausmann empfohlen (Stuttgart: Reclam, 2013)
