Die Veranstaltung führt in das Forschungsgebiet und die Forschungsmethoden des kindlichen Erstspracherwerbs ein. Es werden die typischen Entwicklungsschritte ("Meilensteine") von Kindern auf den verschiedenen sprachlichen Ebenen (Phonetik/Phonologie, Syntax, Semantik etc.) betrachtet, von der Geburt bis ins Grundschulalter. Dabei werden wir in den Sitzungen auch gemeinsam konkrete Sprachdaten analysieren. Im Zusammenhang mit den empirischen Befunden werden verschiedene theoretische Modelle des Erstspracherwerbs vorgestellt, die unterschiedliche Antworten auf grundlegende Fragen geben, z. B. "Wie schaffen es Kinder, innerhalb weniger Jahre eine (oder mehrere) Sprachen zu erlernen?" oder "Sind Menschen 'vorprogrammiert' Sprache zu erwerben, oder tun sie dies mit Hilfe allgemeiner kognitiver Fähigkeiten?" Die Studierenden lernen - auch anhand einiger ausgewählter Studien - Methoden kennen, mit denen man Sprachproduktion und Sprachverständnis von Kindern in unterschiedlichen Altersstufen testen kann.
