Der Kurs soll den Studierenden die Fähigkeit vermitteln, selbstständige philosophische Texte zu verfassen, in denen für eine wohlbestimmte These aus dem Bereich der Moralphilosophie nachvollziehbare Gründe vorgebracht werden. Dazu wird zu Semesterbeginn eine Liste mit Fragen vorgelegt, aus der sich die Studierenden jeweils eine zur Beantwortung aussuchen. Die Antwort in Form eines Aufsatzes von vielleicht drei Seiten wird im Einzelgespräch kritisiert, dann überarbeitet, dann wieder kritisiert, und so weiter, bis ein Text erreicht ist, der steht. Im ganzen Semester soll jeder Studierende drei solche Texte verfassen. Einer der drei, meist der letzte, wird über ein selbst formuliertes, also nicht von der Liste genommenes Thema geschrieben.
Eine Leistungsbescheinigung (BA- oder Master of Education-Studiengang) wird ausgestellt für drei akzeptable Essays.
