Soziale Ungleichheit ist im Unterricht kein akademisches Thema. Schülerinnen und Schüler versuchen sich bei der Auseinandersetzung mit dem Thema "Soziale Ungleichheit" sozialstrukturell zu verorten. Insbesondere in Lehrplänen für Förderschulen, Hauptschulen und Berufsschulen wird das Thema "Sozialen Ungleichheit" oft nicht aufgenommen, weil man, so die gängige Argumentation, den Lernenden nicht ihre deprivierte Lebenslage vor Augen führen möchte. Partiell wird dem sozialwissenschaftlichen Unterricht in diesem Zuge eine sozialdisziplinierende Funktion zugewiesen. Im Seminar werden zunächst ausgewählte Theorien zu sozialer Ungleichheit erarbeitet und didaktisch theoriegeleitet analysiert. Danach werden Lehrpläne und Rahmenvorgaben für die politische Bildung vergleichend ausgewertet und sozialwissenschaftlich in den Diskurs zur sozialen Ungleichheit eingeordnet.
