The Global Health module gives students the opportunity to gain a broad overview and critical insights into the current global health landscape. The module is expected to introduce students to the basic theoretical foundations, methodologies and tools in the field of global health from an interdisciplinary perspective. Furthermore, the course will explore and provide critical insights regarding some of the current strategic commitments and agendas, stakeholders and platforms, and the key debates, controversies and challenges in this area.

The Global Health module has a predominantly weekly schedule held in presence, with a number of sessions held via Zoom to accommodate our international guest speakers. In addition to this, students complete one instructor-guided self-study sessions as well as a mix of individual and group work before, during and after each session.

The main assessment requirement of the module is the development of a policy brief on a global health topic of the student’s choosing. The module requirement (Studienleistung) is to develop the policy brief and present and discuss this in class. The module assessment (Prüfungsleistung) is to elaborate their idea into a detailed policy brief and submit it for graded assessment.

A two-day study tour to Bonn is planned to visit multilateral and German organisations working in global health and related areas. The study tour provides students with valuable and highly relevant real-world insights into the scope, strategic priorities and initiatives of these agencies, as well as the nature of day-to-day work for different professionals in the field of global health.

Full details about the Global Health module schedule, learning objectives, core competencies, topics and assessment can be found in the module syllabus.
