230172 Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf? - Einblicke ins Werk der englischen Autorin (S) (WiSe 2024/2025)

„How should one read a book?”, fragt Virginia Woolf 1926. „The only advice,“ so die britische Autorin weiter, „that one person can give another about reading is to take no advice, to follow your own instincts, to use your own reason, to come to your own conclusions.“ Virginia Woolf ist eine der bedeutendsten Autor:innen der europäischen Moderne. Sie war tätig als Literaturkritikerin und Essayistin, schrieb 1915 mit ‚The Voyage Out‘ ihren ersten Roman und gehörte auch unter Zeitgenossen zu den gefragtesten literarischen Stimmen. Wir beschäftigen uns im Kurs mit vier Romanen der Autorin (‚To the Lighthouse‘, ‚Orlando‘, ‚The Waves‘ und ‚Flush‘) und lesen darüber hinaus einige Kurzgeschichten und Essays. Teilnahmevoraussetzung ist eine hohe Lesebereitschaft der Texte in Originalsprache.
