In dieser Veranstaltung untersuchen wir die syntaktischen, semantischen und pragmatischen Eigenschaften einer heterogenen Gruppe von unflektierbaren, meist kurzen, funktionalen Wörtern, deren Bedeutung oft nicht leicht zu fassen ist. Beispielsweise kann die deutsche Partikel ‚überhaupt’ im Englischen je nach Situation als ‚at all’, ‚altogether’, ‚of all’, ‚anyway’, ‚in the first place’, ‚even’, ‚anywhere’, ‚ever’, ‚there is’, ‚generally’ oder ‚in general’ übersetzt werden (König et al. 1990). Die Wörter sind oft ambig, und ihre Funktion besteht darin, die Beziehung zwischen zwei Sätzen (Diskursmarker) oder die Haltung der Gesprächsteilnehmenden zur getätigten Äußerung (viele Partikeln und Adverbien) zu reflektieren. Bei den Diskursmarkern werden unter anderem Konjunktionen (‚und’, ‚oder’, ‚aber’), Satzkonnektoren (‚deswegen’, trotzdem’) und Komplementierer (‚weil’, ‚obwohl’) unterschieden. Zu den Diskurspartikeln zählen Fokuspartikeln (‚nur’, ‚sogar’) , Modalpartikeln (‚ja’, ‚doch’, denn’, ‚wohl’, ‚halt’) und weitere. Wir untersuchen die Bedeutung dieser Wörter in Texten: Wie tragen sie zur Kohärenz und zum Common-Ground-Management bei? Wie unterscheidet sich das Deutsche von anderen Sprachen?
