250048 Academic Entrepreneurship in the Changing Higher Education Landscape (S) (WiSe 2013/2014)

Contents, comment

Academic entrepreneurship is a topic of growing interest both in social sciences and political debate. The proponents of entrepreneurialism, for instance, see it as a new ‘solution’ for the legitimization in terms of “the third mission of universities” and funding in research. This is mostly in light of the instrumental role of education in the present day “knowledge” society. In this context, the nature of research in higher education is increasingly complicated due to the changing goals of academia in terms of commodification of scientific results. This raises a need to probe the nature of entrepreneurialism either as a “friend or foe” to the academic world. To approach this question requires providing an overview of how academic entrepreneurship is framed and researched at all levels including economic, institutional, organizational and individual. This necessitates the conceptual importance of academic entrepreneurship and its nature and forms in diverse contexts.

The proposed Seminar, in this background, is planning to discuss the emerging issues in higher education from diverse perspective in higher education.
