Kongruenz bezeichnet die Übereinstimmung zwischen sprachlichen Ausdrücken hinsichtlich bestimmter grammatischer Kategorien wie z.B. Kasus, Numerus, Person oder Genus. So liegt im Deutschen z.B. eine NP-interne Kongruenz zwischen dem Determinierer, dem Adjektiv und dem Kopfnomen vor oder eine satzinterne Kongruenz zwischen dem Subjekt und dem Verb. Kongruenz liegt aber auch in prädikativen Konstruktionen zwischen dem Subjekt bzw. dem Objekt und dem Prädikativum vor.
Im Seminar werden die grammatischen Bedingungen der verschiedenen Kongruenzkonstellation im Deutschen und auch über das Deutsche hinaus thematisiert. Einen Schwerpunkt des Seminars bilden die sogenannten Kongruenzkonflikte, bei denen im Sprachgebrauch die Regeln der grammatischen Kongruenz zugunsten der semantisch-pragmatischen Kongruenz verletzt werden.
