This course will focus on U.S. American Literatures and introduces first-year students to the basic terms and methods of literary studies. Participants will be taught analysis and interpretation of texts in the main literary genres, narrative (short story, novel, essay), poetry, and drama.
The seminar will be accompanied by a tutorial in which students have the chance to repeat, discuss and practice the methods taught in the seminar. It is highly recommend to attend the tutorial as well.

Please note that BM2 comprising BM2.1 “Analysing and Interpreting British Literary Texts” and BM2.2 “Analyzing and Interpreting American Literary Texts” will be offered for the last time as parallel lectures in a single semester in the winter term 2023/24. From summer term 2025 onwards, students enrolled in the FsB 2017 will have to attend the two lectures in American Studies and British Studies in two subsequent semest
