Rund 12,1 % der erwachsenen deutschen Bevölkerung sind von geringer Literalität betroffen. Das bedeutet, dass 6,2 Millionen Menschen nicht oder nicht ausreichend im Deutschen lesen und schreiben können. 47 % dieser Menschen weisen eine andere Herkunftssprache als das Deutsche auf, was wiederum bedeutet, dass sich unter diesen Menschen sowohl primäre, sekundäre als auch funktionale Analphabet*innen befinden und diese demgemäß sowohl im Deutschen als auch in ihrer Herkunftssprache gering literalisiert sein könnten.
Im Seminar wird geringe Literalität aus theoretischer, empirischer und didaktischer Perspektive betrachtet, wobei ein Schwerpunkt auf das Thema Alphabetisierung gering literalisierter Migrant*innen innerhalb Deutschlands gelegt wird.
