Ziel des Kurses ist die Vermittlung grundlegender Kenntnisse bei der Verwendung von Computern im Studium. Dazu gehören die folgenden Inhalte:
- Daten, Dateien, Dateisysteme
- Textverarbeitung
- Tabellenkalkulation
- Präsentationen
- Zeichenrepertoires
- Reguläre Ausdrücke
- (X)HTML: Erstellen von Webpages
Im Verlauf des Kurses werden neue Inhalte erläutert, Techniken werden vorgeführt und eingeübt. Die Teilnehmenden sind zum Fragen aufgefordert, Raum für das betreute Bearbeiten der vorgesehenen Übungsaufgaben ist insbesondere mit dem regelmäßigen Mittwochstermin gegeben. Als Software wird u.a. LibreOffice.org eingesetzt, das kostenlos für eine Reihe von Betriebssystemen verfügbar ist (Windows, Mac OS, Linux). Die Teilnehmenden sind angehalten zu Übungszwecken auf einem ihnen zugänglichen Rechner für eine entsprechende Umgebung zu sorgen.
