Im Vordergrund stehen die Geschichte und die Entwicklung der Ausbildungs- und Forschungsinstitutionen in Deutschland im 19. Jahrhundert. Da Preußen gerade im Bereich der Bildung eine für die anderen deutschen Staaten prägende Rolle einnimmt, wird der Schwerpunkt auf Preußen liegen. Es zeigt sich, dass Bildungsentwicklung und Bildungspolitik vor allem Aktivitäten des modernen Kulturstaates sind. Die Veränderungen des Bildungswesens sind gekennzeichnet von Ausbau, Modernisierung und Differenzierung, angefangen zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts mit Wilhelm von Humboldt. Wir wollen uns das Schulwesen, die Lehrerbildung, die Universitäten und die Forschungsinstitutionen anhand von Quellenschriften der Zeit und Sekundärliteratur anschauen. Erwartet wird die Lektüre der Texte, Übernahme einer Moderation und kontinuierliche Mitarbeit.
