Die Übung begleitet das BA-Seminar „Paradiese und Wunderwelten in der Antike“, indem es das dort gewählte Spezialthema in den größeren Kontext antiker Ethnographie und Geographie einordnet und deren historischen und politischen Kontext klärt. Studiert werden einschlägige Texte konzentriert auf die Epoche bis zum Alexanderzug, an erster Stelle Ausschnitte aus Homers Odyssee, den Historien Herodots und den Indika des Ktesias. Der Besuch der Veranstaltung ist für alle BA-Seminarteilnehmer obligatorisch
