This seminar will approach internet memes through interdisciplinary lenses mainly focused on Science and Technology Studies and Platform Studies. Building on the notion of performativity as repeated practices that intertwine material and social dimensions in different and contingent arrangements, the class will explore how users, social media platforms and memes construct clusters and otherness. During the semester, we are going to have hands-on activities as we follow various memetic clusters at the same time we discuss related academic literature.
