MPH 13 Topics of Public Health Medicine zielt darauf, den Studierenden zentrale bevölkerungsmedizinische Probleme nahezubringen und ihnen ein Verständnis der Patho- und Soziogenese der wichtigsten Volkskrankheiten zu vermitteln. Als Orientierung dient das WHO-Konzept „Burden of Disease“ (Krankheitslast in der Bevölkerung und in unterschiedlichen Populationsgruppen). Die Studierenden erhalten sowohl einen Überblick über die biomedizinischen Grundlagen wie auch über soziale Einflussfaktoren und lernen diese in ihrer Bedeutung für die Krankheitslast einer Bevölkerung zu beurteilen. In Form von Kurzreferaten haben die Studierenden Gelegenheit, einzelne Krankheitsentitäten (kardiovaskuläre und Stoffwechselkrankheiten, Infektionskrankheiten, Krebserkrankungen, Psychiatrische und neurologische Krankheiten) im Auditorium vorzustellen und zu diskutieren. Dabei wird auch der sichere Umgang mit den bevölkerungsmedizinischen Maßzahlen eingeübt.
