Das Seminar beschäftigt sich mit dem Dichter Stefan George (1868-1933), der zu den wichtigsten Autoren der deutschsprachigen Lyrik um 1900 gehört. Seine Dichtung durchläuft eine Entwicklung von der scheinbar ´reinen Poesie´ der ´Kunst für die Kunst´im Frühwerk bis zur weltanschaulichen Kreisdichtung im Spätwerk. Im Zentrum des Seminar steht der Gedichtband "Der siebente Ring" (1907), der als eine Übergangsphase zwischen Früh- und Spätwerk betrachtet werden kann.
