Ziel der Veranstaltung ist es, die deutsche Sprache in ihren unterschiedlichen Fassetten und Zweckmäßigkeiten anzusehen. Dabei geht es darum, dass Sprache nicht nur ein bestimmtes System hat, sondern in unterschiedlichen Situationen unterschiedlich ausgeprägt werden kann. So unterscheiden sich bspw. regionale Dialekte von der Standardsprache, die Jugendsprache von der Sprache der Erwachsenen, die Fachsprachen im Handwerk von denen der Sportarten oder der Behörden, usw.
Die Studierenden lernen die einzelnen Systeme miteinander zu Vergleichen und gehen der Frage nach, welche kommunikative Absicht hinter den Variationen steckt.

Vorausgesetzt werden Grundlagenkenntnisse auf allen linguistischen Ebenen (Phonetik und Phonologie, Morphologie und Syntax, Semantik und Pragmatik)
