"Realismus" ist ein Epochenbegriff und zugleich ein überhistorischer ästhetischer Begriff. Das Seminar verfolgt das Ziel, diese zwei Seiten des Realismus-Begriffs aus der Perspektive der Literaturwissenschaft zu untersuchen. Grundlegend ist dabei die systematische Frage nach dem Wirklichkeitsbezug der Literatur: sie soll anhand von literarischen, programmatischen und theoretischen Texten diskutiert werden. Auf diese Weise wird sowohl literaturgeschichtliches Wissen über die Epoche des Realismus in der deutschsprachigen Literatur des 19. Jahrhunderts vermittelt als auch das Reflektieren über ästhetische, literaturtheoretische und literaturwissenschaftlich-methodische Probleme und Konzepte eingeübt.
