Often the first experience of the English language that non-native speakers have is
through English-speaking pop culture delivered through mass media and social
networks. The films we watch, the music we listen to and the products we consume
both intersect with language and utilize its power for its own purposes. English pop
culture is everywhere and globalization is only progressively making it more prevalent
across the globe.
This course will not only focus on a critical analysis of English-speaking pop culture,
but also on practicing and improving general English language competence.
Participants will engage in topical discussions, debates, and group and project work,
and through an exploration of the "culture of now" this course will address the general
ability to use English to discuss such topics and themes at a higher level.
