This seminar aims at providing an introduction to a variety of theoretical approaches practiced in linguistics. This includes structuralism, generative grammar, functional and cognitive linguistics and quantitative linguistics. We will also discuss sociolinguistic and pragmatic key concepts, as well as the notion of ‘theory’ and scientific explanation in general.
