Im ersten Teil des Seminars geht es um das Französische im Maghreb und seinen gesellschaftlichen Status. Nach einem sprachgeschichtlichen Überblick werden verschiedene französische Varietäten besprochen:
- Le français en Algérie, Le français au Maroc, Le français en Tunisie
- die drei niveaux sociolinguistiques: basilecte, mésolecte, acrolecteEs werden die jeweiligen phonetischen, morphosyntaktischen und lexikalischen Besonderheiten besprochen sowie die Spracheinstellungen der Sprecher und die Sprachpolitik vor und nach der Unabhängigkeit der Länder.
Thema des zweiten Teils sind Sprachkontaktsituationen in Frankreich, bei denen durch Migration aus dem Maghreb Elemente aus Berbersprachen und arabischen Varietäten in die französische Sprache Eingang gefunden haben (Sprachmischung, Interferenz).
