In this class we will look at different theories on first language acquisition and also at various language experiements conducted with children; these experiments range from studies with unborn babies, mere infants, one- and two-year-olds, toddlers, and preschool children. We'll explore why language acquisition is so seemingly easy and language learning at times laborious. In order to understand the process of language acquisition we will look at a number of child-care-taker dialogs.
I recommend students buy the book by O'Grady.
