Der Erste Weltkrieg sowie die Zwischenkriegszeit finden immer wieder die Aufmerksamkeit der Öffentlichkeit und der Forschung. Jedoch ist diel wichtige Umbruchphase von 1916-1923 nahezu in Vergessenheit geraten. Mit Blick auf Deutschland dominieren hier immer noch Interpretationsmuster der 1960/70er Jahre.

Die Veranstaltung resümiert die geschichtwissenschaftlichen Forschungen, rückt sie in epochen- und länderübergreifende Perspektiven und diskutiert an konkreten Fallbeispielen analytisch weiterführende Erkenntnismöglichkeiten.

In sozial- und kulturgeschichtlicher Perspektive geht es im Einzelnen um Kolonialkriege, Kriegs- und Revolutionsalltag sowie Nachkriegskonflikte.
