This study group is interested in the history of vampirism; from the origins of Polidori’s “The Vampyre”, and Stoker’s “Dracula”, to modern renditions of the concept. As vampirism has become more of a popculture phenomenon, our group seeks to gain a broader understanding of the historical, cultural, and social values of the vampires presented in literature. We would like to take a closer look at vampirism in selected texts and media, as well as connecting them to feminist, queer, and racial theory (among others).
