Fragen der Integration unterschiedlicher Kulturen in eine Gesellschaft stehen nicht nur aktuell auf der politischen Tagesordnung. Die Verschränkung von staatbürgerlichen Rechten, kultureller Annäherung und gesellschaftlicher Integration soll in diesem Seminar am Beispiel jüdischer Deutscher zwischen 1800 und 1918 herausgearbeitet werden. In diesem Zeitraum, der lange einseitig als Periode der erfolgreichen Emanzipation, Integration und der "deutsch-jüdischen Symbiose" verklärt wurde, wurden allerdings zugleich die Argumentationsmuster entwickelt und verbreitet, die die Ausgrenzung, Verfolgung und Ermordung der Juden ab 1933 vermeintlich legitimierten. Ziel des Seminars ist es, die Anstrengungen und die Grenzen der Integration in den unterschiedlichen gesellschaftlichen Bereichen zu analysieren
