230628 Space and the New American Studies (S) (SoSe 2007)

Contents, comment

Recent concepts such as Gilroy's "Black Atlantic", Saldivars' "Borderlands", Bhabha's "Third Space", Deleuze's "Virtual Space" as well as theories of "Urban Spaces" will guide our study of space as a major trope to analyze American literature and culture in both national and transnational terms. The various concepts of space will be applied and tested as concerns their relevance for analyzing e.g. American literature, film and photography.
